Mark Zuckerberg wants to be Tony Stark. That’s his plan for 2016 anyways.
In an open Facebook post to the masses, the man behind the social media platform stated his intention to build an artificial intelligence to better run his home and day to day with. It’s a personal project, though, and not one that will be taking over your Facebook any time soon.
Zuckerberg said that every year he likes to give himself a challenge. The past couple of years it’s been everything from reading more to learning a new language to going out and meeting new people. And each year he gives himself a theme for his challenge. This year, it’s invention. The founder of Facebook is putting his years of programming to use and working alongside some of the best minds in engineering and technology to create an AI for his home.
Aside from the usual run of voice commands to “turn on the lights” and “turn the volume up to 11,” Zuckerberg plans to have his JARVIS knock off (no, really, he actually said “you can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man“) use image recognition software to detect who’s at his front door, and if it’s a friend, his AI would let them in. He also hopes to integrate it into his work life, from virtually visualizing data with an AI Oculus integration and helping him to be a better leader at work.
It doesn’t end there. Zuckerberg wants to teach his AI to essentially become a nanny for his daughter Max. And he means teach, as in the AI would adapt and learn from different situations to let Zuckerberg or his wife know when Max needs their attention. Who knows, maybe the next step would to just go all out and build a stage 3 Synth to take care of the kid for them.
